Brow and Lash Tinting Facts
Is it Safe to Tint Brows and Lashes?
Women flock to my beauty salon Leeds in the summer to have their lashes and brows tinted. A concern for many however is eye sensitivity and safety. I can guarantee that as long as the treatment is being carried out by a qualified therapist then it is completely safe.
People must bare in mind however that permanent eyelash and brow tints and dyes have had reactions that cause inflamed tissue ans rashes but this is very rare and in my 10 years of being in the industry have never witnessed myself. I also make sure everybody has a patch test at least 24 hours before their treatment to be 100% safe. If you have ever had any reaction to hair dyes in the past then tinting probably is best to be avoided. If you wear contact lenses it’s always best to remove them before the treatment, you can always reinsert them the next day. Eye drops can also be used to rinse the eyes out afterwards if your eyes are particularly sensitive.
Lash and Brow Tinting Procedure
At Eden Beauty salon Leeds I try and make the tinting procedure as relaxing and comfortable as possible. I first apply Vaseline around the lash and brow line to stop and tint taking on the skin. I then apply a moistened cotton pad under the eyes the paint the tint on the lashes onto and to again stop any tint dying the skin. I next mix the tint (which can be blue/black – the most popular eyelash tint, black, brown or black/brown) with the colour developer, I never use hair dye on lashes as it it too harsh for the eye area. Instead I apply a semi-permanent colour on the lashes with a small eye-liner brush coating each individual lash evenly. I then do the same on the brows and remove with moist cotton pads if they are being done too. The brows takes a lot quicker than the lashes (brows take around 2-3 minutes whereas lashes take around 7 minutes). If the brows aren’t being done I always perform a hand and arm massage whilst the eyelash tint is taking just to make the treatment feel that bit more luxurious. The tint is then removed with cool water and cotton pads and as long as the client has kept their eyes shut their shouldn’t be any stinging or discomfort and the therapist should never leave the room while the tint is on.
Brow tinting results last around 2-4 weeks and lash tinting around 4-6 weeks. Eyebrow tinting leaves the brows looking looking lovely and defined and can make them look a lot fuller as all of the lighter hairs get dyed too. Eyelash tinting leaves the lashes looking a lot darker but clients must realise it isn’t going to make the lashes look any longer or add any volume but it is great for through the day on holiday when you might be dipping in and out of the pool. If you want more oomph to your tinted lashes, you can still wear mascara.
